Tour Itinerary Fat Tire Bike Tours - Berlin Wall Tour. An extremely insightful 4.5 hour tour, leisurely covering about 6 miles (10km) by bike. Our Berlin Wall Bike Tour delves even deeper into this darkest time in Berlin’s history – The Cold War. This pervasive tour covers why Berlin was divided and how, the Berlin Airlift, tales of espionage by both the Allies and feared East German secret police (Stasi), the downfall of communism, how Berlin is dealing with its past and much, much more. The tour begins with an orientation to the Berlin Wall and the route we follow before hoping on our comfortable bikes. We go down the former main boulevard of East Berlin to reach the longest stretch of Berlin Wall still remaining - more than 1km of graffiti-painted Wall. We bike along more than 5 km of where the Wall existed to understand the differences (many still existing) between life on both sides of the Wall. After a lunch break in a typical German beer hall, the tour continues with additional checkpoints, escape attempt stories (some successful, some not), the last of the round deathstrip watchtowers, Potsdamer Platz, the Brandenburg Gate and much more. Please note that although a handful of sights (such as Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate) are on both our City Bike Tour and Berlin Wall Tour, the commentary is tailored at these sights to the Berlin Wall theme of the tour, ensuring almost no overlap with our City Bike Tour.
